Tribute series: DEBATE

Countdown to graduation: four days.

Just when I thought I was finally getting the hang of being captain. My time's up.

Three years is a long time. And looking back, I can't believe I've spent that much of my high school life debating. I remember when I first tried out for debate in first year. I didn't make it. I finally got enough enthusiasm to cancel a piano rehearsal in order to attend a second tryout that summer. After that, you know the rest.

Now, I'm going through the contents of my tribute box. Wait, I'll say that again. MY tribute box. Yup, I'm at the end of the road. College debating is unlikely, thus the debate road ends around here. It probably ended when... I partially turned over? When grands finished? No, but this one's for real. This team has a new captain, new newbies (ugh, redundant), and a new year ahead of them.

Life goes on after debate, of course. But for the years that were, it was a great three years.
Three years of memories... taken from the highlight of each year, the tournament that makes all the difference - PSDC/ IISDC

The year that taught me how to love debate.

The year that taught me how to love the team.

The year that taught me how to be what I thought I couldn't ever be - a leader.

Margie. Dani. Mikki. Sylvia. Bets. Giovs. Bea. Mica. Pola. Gaba. Abby. Chrissa. Pat. Nikki. Mica. Monmen. Tabby. Sam. Marianne. Maxine. Lexy. The SR teams of those years, as well as the other people I befriended over the past three years. You were the ones that made it happen.

The leap from 94.98 to 95.00 entails 0.02 points. As for Friday's graduation, I'm getting the former, not the latter. If you want to know where the last 0.02 is, this is the real deal.

Who'd ever thought a box of pictures, frames, t shirts, letters, and 10 things why debate will never be the same without me was worth three years. And mind you, it's worth a lot more than 0.02.

To the underclassmen whom the team belongs to now...
I can't imagine myself not being part of the family anymore. But, I know I can let go with no regrets because you're still there. The greatest measure of leadership is legacy. Looking at how you are now is the greatest feeling of accomplishment I can ever have.

There are people who believe that you can do something before you believe so yourself. That's my phenomenal team.

And when all those people believe in you
Deep enough, strong enough, hard enough, and long enough
Then it starts to reason
You yourself will start to see what everybody sees in you
And maybe even you, can believe in you too.

I never thought I could. But, guess what? I pulled it off. Captaincy. Things do often pay off, in ways more than I can imagine.

I love you guys, and I'll miss you so, so much. Thanks for an awesome three years. Because really, I don't think I could ask for much more.

To restage or not to restage...

The poll is up. Should the Gabay production of Songs for a New World do a restaging? Hit the comment button, and state your name, answer, and justification. This way, certain people won't vote numerous times. I cannot believe I'm even opening to that situation.

WR Debaters are sorority sisters... :)

It's been a little bit under hell over the past two days, so it's been hard to find the time to blog about IISDC. The teachers decided to give no mercy and imposed all make up tests to be taken today. Naturally, we died studying last night. But... the point is... it was well worth it. It's super hard to actually describe IISDC 2006, so here's the rundown on the highlights. 1. Mega SQUISH!! 12 people in Eagle star!! - Just when we thought that 8 people in a condo was difficult last year, we tried 12 this year. It took a lot of mattresses and fixing up every single day, lots of squishing, waiting for Gaba to turn off the lights, and sleeping on the floor. Imagine, the condo is originally for two people, and we fit six times more than that. Achievement! Well, it just involved having no space after all the bags were unloaded and after the sleeping bags were rolled down. But, that just adds to the fun of it! 2. No sleep, really - okay, so we still slept a little, but we woul...
