The emotional roller coaster that is NAsH DC

No matter what has ever happened... NAsH DC is always one hell of a tournament. It turned five years old this year (thus we got the plaque thing). I've only been around to see three of the NAsH-es... but I only thought one thing when I saw the video at the championship dinner: I'm going to miss this. Every NAsH DC has been life changing (and character shaping... naks!) And this is why... (my blogspot, which multiply is cross posted to, has been around long enough to witness my first nash dc entry, as well as my second.)

NASH DC 2005 - I experienced my first break ever. I was part of WR A, and I placed 10th, with Mica Tan and Ana Bets. In this year's nash, I actually learned to like debating. (pahabol: playing pants in between rounds, giovanna cooking oatmeal, sleeping in somerset - best condo ever!)

NASH DC 2006 - I called this the "best five days of my life" in the previous blog. I was part of WR A again, and placed 5th with Mica Pena and Abby Castelo. If the last year I learned to like debating, that year, I learned how to love the team. (pahabol: oprah marathons, having a crippled teammate, and a glass solid debate bubble)

NASH DC 2007 - This is probably the most character shaping five days of my life. This year, I didn't break in Nash Dc... I have the tabs but then again, I probably wouldn't want to look at them quite yet. But if there's anything I learned this year, it's the most important thing. I may have learned to love debating, and to love the team over the past years. But now, I learned how it was to lead the team that I loved for the longest time. And sometimes, it isn't going to be winning, it's about being strong. (which of course, had its very trying moments). But at the end of it, it was worth it. I saw the kids I had urged and (sort of trying to) trained get into the finals. We made WR debate history yet again.
And of course, nash dc isn't nash dc without the highlights of the tournament:
1. Manila Manor... thank you caaath!! we stayed in the 7th floor, subdivided into the good room (abby chrissa marianne miss q) and the bad room (me pola gaba sam). Watching HSM2 and Rent... (obviously, when miss q was alseep na)
2. ATTITUDE!! E EQUALS MC SQUARED!! No one will exactly be able to get the inside joke here... because it's all in the manner it's being said. I'm going to try to video it, and post. No matter what, no one can say it like mikki can! (or the other people who invented it with him)
3. My two obsessions: "the secrets to body language"... now I have learned the different ways of hand shaking. I didn't quite finish it... so raffy, you better bring it during PSDC. Oh yeah, and my new source of annoyance but obsession: Concep's PSP tetris game.
Pam: It's not fair! Do you have to be fast too! Why is the margin moving!
Nico: It IS fair. It's because you're losing.
Pam: Okay. Last na. Promise. I will win this.
Pam continues playing. Again. and again. and again.
RJ: Ano ka! You keep saying last na! Stop na kaya, you're getting stressed!
Pam: I KNOW! But I have to win!
And just so you know... I eventually gave up after around 100 tries. Just to show you, I was a video game girl up till i was 11. Old habits die hard.
4. Dinner at Fridays... I have never eaten so much with my team. Exaaaag!! We even fought with each other for the food.
Marianne Nav: (getting shrimp) Guys, it's stuck together.
Pola: okay lang, we can all get two. Keep it.
Nav: pero, tatlo siya kasi.
Pola: IBALIK MO UNG ISA!
5. Lovers at NASH: Mark Lonzaga and Raffy Galvez. As proven by Job during public speaking - they finish each others' sentences. Now, that's block voting for you!
6. Cath's hamster - Frappy, which I named Hansky! Speaking of hansky, he came during day one and watched our round.
7. drama during day three... in LSGH, if people know what I mean. Don't worry, ayus na.
8. the shirts which we couldn't get. debater... in my element.
9. sabi daw sa championship dinner: SR and WR are back together again. It can't be more true. Mega bonding over the past five days. Kwentizing... juicy but totally gross!!
10. stampede of people who came over to watch the finals. Mikes, Stew, Karen, Mon, Miss Q, Mikki and MIca (who ran from Ateneo and went on the LRT/MRT) and the rest. It was three rows of WR supporters during finals.

Thanks and big hugs goes to everyone... but most especially to:
1. Mikki, Dani, and Mica. I would not have made it out alive (really!) if not for you three. Dani, for talking sense into me while i was hysterial during break night. Mikki, for your monologo... I was still hysterical, but I swear I remember some of it... *thinks*, basta ung "it's gonna be worth it". Mica, for being the one calming voice... both over the phone and during the finals.
2. WR debate varsity nash team 2007. If there was any consolation, I was knowing that WR C and WR A were out there fighting and doing their best. I can't be more proud. And I know that I couldn't ask for more. Thanks to pola and gaba, we tried, and we fought. That's what matters.
3. Isha and Gel (ANO?!). There's not much to elaborate upon, but I have the bestest friends in the whole world. I just do. PERIOD.

The checklist...

A lot is going on... A LOT. None of which are done yet, btw... so a-la-Nash-reply speech... I'll just go down a quick check list... on what the hell I'm supposed to be doing... (gaaah... I'm back to my time tabled life... I miss spontaineity) 1. WIT - actually this is done... it went well!! We got some possible new recruits... and it was actually fun to miss a lot of class to adj debates... and miss even more class tabbing... 2. Campaign - hasn't started... but being campaign manager has its perks and downfalls (such as shortened lunch). MOVE doesn't have a final line up yet... but anyway... it's currently on low priority... 3. Sendoff - gawd don't talk to me about this. I haven't started yet. I will, when I actually have the time to do so. 4. Prom - just finished up getting the last minute things... I'm going to spend the week breathing now... just those reaaaally minor details na lang... JUST GET IT OVER WITH NA! I swear, the planning and talking n...

To restage or not to restage...

The poll is up. Should the Gabay production of Songs for a New World do a restaging? Hit the comment button, and state your name, answer, and justification. This way, certain people won't vote numerous times. I cannot believe I'm even opening to that situation.

WR Debaters are sorority sisters... :)

It's been a little bit under hell over the past two days, so it's been hard to find the time to blog about IISDC. The teachers decided to give no mercy and imposed all make up tests to be taken today. Naturally, we died studying last night. But... the point is... it was well worth it. It's super hard to actually describe IISDC 2006, so here's the rundown on the highlights. 1. Mega SQUISH!! 12 people in Eagle star!! - Just when we thought that 8 people in a condo was difficult last year, we tried 12 this year. It took a lot of mattresses and fixing up every single day, lots of squishing, waiting for Gaba to turn off the lights, and sleeping on the floor. Imagine, the condo is originally for two people, and we fit six times more than that. Achievement! Well, it just involved having no space after all the bags were unloaded and after the sleeping bags were rolled down. But, that just adds to the fun of it! 2. No sleep, really - okay, so we still slept a little, but we woul...
